What is it like to live in Belgrade? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It is nice. People are friendly, food is good, during the weekend the city never sleeps. Facilities are sometimes bad organised, but in general strangers have a good experience. Almost all young people speak English, so you don't need to learn Serbian language. It's a nice city for young people and for adventures.

What is the student lifestyle like in Belgrade?

It's good. Also, if you ask around, you can find many interesting events in Belgrade.

How much does it cost to live in Belgrade?

Depends on accommodation and lifestyle, but in general- it's not expensive.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Belgrade? Is there any advice you can give?

There are many websites where you can find nice apartments. It's best to rent an apartment near the city center (but not in the center. For example in the districts of Voždovac, Zvezdara, Karaburma, etc. ). In those directions transportation is ok, and as a student you can take a monthly transportation ticket for about 10 euros. Never rent a room in the dormitory!

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Food is excellent! There are a lot of national dishes. The most famous meat dishes are sarma (ground meat rolled in a sour cabbage), pljeskavica and ćevapi (both made of ground meats). Vegetarians can eat proja (made of corn flour), ajvar (made of chopped paprikas, and personaly my favourite side dish ever! ), kajmak (made by buffalo or cow milk, something similar to cheese but much better) and of course, here we like to eat very hot and spicy meals.

What places would you recommend visiting in Belgrade?

  • Nikola Telsa Museum
  • Kalemegdan (old fortress)
  • Skadarlija (Bohemian street with cafes and restaurants)

Is it good to eat out in Belgrade? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Lately there are more and more new places where you can grab different kinds of food, but there is always good old fast food with Pljeskavicas.

My favourite places:

  • Shauarma bar-the best falafel in the city! (and awesome for Vegans)
  • Gusan- old restaurant with take away pljeskavicas
  • Intergalactic-good burgers

And for the sweets:

  • Mali Princ (Little Prince, for cakes and cookies)
  • Moritz Eis - for the ice cream

Is the nightlife good in Belgrade? Where is good to go?

Yes, it's good. Maybe the best place to go is Savamala (Near Sava river). It's an urban neighborhood with pubs, clubs and bars. It's very vibrant during the weekend, and there are always some small festivals.

What advice would you give future students heading to Belgrade?

Enjoy your time here and make friends, I think people can be the best part of this city.
