What is it like to live in Belgrade? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Living in Belgrade is amazing. There is no other word to describe it. It is an exciting city, people are always out and about, but not that crowded. There is always something to do any day of the week, at any time. The prices are normal, and everyone always makes time for the people in their life. I would recommend it to anyone who likes people, socialising. The people are what make this city great and worthwhile.

What is the student lifestyle like in Belgrade?

Students definitely have the best life in Belgrade. Everything in the city caters to the students’ needs. There are student discounts everywhere on everything. University is educational and you learn more than you should, however when the night falls students are seen everywhere, travelling to their favourite clubs, pubs and cafes.... The clubs on the water are also very popular during summer, and some are even open during winter. There is always someone to see, and always is something to do. The city is very safe.

How much does it cost to live in Belgrade?

Compared to other cities (in Europe), Belgrade is a fairly affordable place to live. The apartment rent is very cost effective. Food cost is also very fair.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Belgrade? Is there any advice you can give?

Not at all. Most people in Belgrade speak English, everyone is very friendly (especially towards foreigners). Therefore people are very open to helping others find a place to stay for a nice price. Internet and real estate magazines provide all information about finding a perfect place in the preferred neighbourhood.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food is mostly traditional when it comes to sit down restaurants. However (as Belgrade is very open to international products), there is a wide range of international foods (especially fast food), such as giros(kebab), and pizza etc.

What places would you recommend visiting in Belgrade?

  • Kalemegdan Fortress
  • Gardoš
  • Sveti Sava Monostry
  • Sveti Marko Church
  • Saborna Church
  • Avala Television Tower
  • Ada Ciganlija

Is it good to eat out in Belgrade? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes of course. I would recommend restaurants like "Stara Koliba", which is a fish restaurant situated on the water in Zemun.

All restaurants on the street of Skadarlija are must to try. They offer many beautiful traditional restaurants, with very tasty dishes.

Is the nightlife good in Belgrade? Where is good to go?

Nightlife in Belgrade is probably the best in Europe, or at least in the top cities for nightlife. There is something for everyone. There is a wide range of pubs for people who are more mellow. There are clubs which are open until 7:00AM next morning. From clubs on the water to clubs all over the city centre. There are Cuban clubs, where salsa is played all the time and Latin dancers get together to dance together.

What advice would you give future students heading to Belgrade?

I would advise everyone to come to study in Belgrade. Firstly, because the Universities are very good, they give good insight on the preferred stuff. Secondly because of the student life, students here are free, and safe. If someone is in the mood for a late-night coffee with a friend, they are welcome to leave their house at any given time, in late nights, to do it in their local cafe.
