Experience in Belgrade, Serbia by Dunja
What is it like to live in Belgrade? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
The city is very lively, especially in the centre, through out the entire week. It is a good balance of a busy city and a relaxed atmosphere, most of the residential areas are quite quite even if they are close to the centre. The locals are friendly and welcoming and mostly everyone speaks english and are happy to help foreigners.
How much does it cost to live in Belgrade?
It is a lot more affordable compared to other places in Europe.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Belgrade? Is there any advice you can give?
Ive only come across accommodations on sites like Air bnb and Booking.com, there are a bunch of accommodations with great taste and a variety of interior aesthetics. The prices are also usually super affordable especially for a nice space.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
I love Serbian cuisine but Serbia is also filled with a ton of restaurants offering a variety of cuisine. Street food such as pizzas, crepes and gyros is personally my most preferred compared to other places I have visited.
What places would you recommend visiting in Belgrade?
Old Belgrade is my favourite area, there are a lot of bars, pubs, cafes and restaurants. Skadarlija is a must see, the oldest pub square in Belgrade which is packed with people, music and great food/drinks. Kalemegdan is a great place to go to during the day as well as walking through Knez Mihajlova (main pedestrian and shopping zone). There are a lot of more discrete hipster areas such as Savamala and spots around the city you just have to find through exploring the city.
Is it good to eat out in Belgrade? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
I love "smokvica"It has a middle eastern twist to the menue. The ice cream is also highly recommend, in little ice cream stalls every few minutes from one another.
Is the nightlife good in Belgrade? Where is good to go?
The nightlife is amazing, I would recomment having pre drinks in Old Belgrade, in pubs such as "shootiranje"( a shot bar) or "Greenmill" a live performance pub with an outside seating area. And then after pres to go over the bridge to the so called "Splavs" which is a streak of massive clubs on the river. It is the main area for proper clubbing with a mass of clubs to choose from walking distance from one another along the river.
