Life's gifts: All you can eats

Published by flag-es Michael Dib — 6 years ago

This one's for the food tourists and those looking for a massive and delicious meal. If you’re also a lover of chicken wings, look no further. Mr. International restaurant has got you covered. A bit of background. My mates are crazy chicken wings enthusiasts. They would pay copious amounts of Lebanese lira to have access to all you can eats or simply order large amounts of chicken wings. They would often set up night outs just around chicken wings and beers.

I personally wasn’t the biggest fan of going out for chicken wings as my family were pretty good at marinating and making piles upon piles of juicy eating. However, things changed when I left the country and came back for a visit on a scorching hot July.

My two closest mates were trying to convince me to go to this one place to eat. I decided to keep an open mind as I hadn’t seen my mates in awhile and one of them also came from overseas just to visit the rest of the group. So, several of us got into our mate’s jeeps one hot friday night and beelined it to the venue.

If you’ve ever been to Lebanon, you would know that it's hot. Not just hot, but soul-gripping hot. Due to bordering the mediterranean and having most of the country next to the sea, the humidity skyrockets the heat to unbearable level’s for most who hadn’t grown up in a hot country.

So, when we reached the venue we immediately sat in the outdoor area. The place had been mostly full except for a couple of tables we threw together for ourselves. This place is a very local one, so we were surrounded by Lebanese men cheering at one of the large screen televisions as a football game was going on. I can’t exactly recall the players, all I call to mind is that it had been an international game.

The place was tucked away a street away from the main road, so we didn’t have to listen to the hustle and bustle of one of Lebanon’s largest highways. So we sat down and were served the menus.

One of my close mates grabs the menu from my hands and returns it to the waiter, “we know what he wants” he claimed. He actually did. This venue sold some incredibly priced chicken wings deal.

This is what primarily makes Mr. International unique . You can order the unlimited chicken wings option. You will be brought basket upon basket of two different types of chicken wings, regular and barbequed. They also come with baskets of two different types of unlimited wedges, regular salted or spicy. The spicy wings were not to my liking in all honesty. However, the rest of the options are very good, the bbq wings are especially divine. They also added different sauces for your preferences.

We must have spent an hour eating almost nonstop. Breaking just for the wings to be served. By the end, the six of us must have eaten a farm’s worth of chickens and a field's worth of potatoes.. My stomach and my soul were satisfied by the end of it.

This venue is relatively new by the time we first visited. Its menu, as the name goes, is international. They also provide teriyaki, buffalo, cuban, Hawaiian chicken subs, mexican fajitas, philly cheese steaks, Halloumi burgers, alfredo pastas, caesar salads and many more options.

Another great thing about this venue is that it stocks sheeshas (hookah). So if you’re looking to have a tasty meal and watch the game with a shisha, this place has got you set. If you're looking for a drink with your meal, they have many options of soft drinks juices and alcohols. Although, if you're keen for a bit of drinking, there are a couple of local bars nearby to sate your thirst for booze.

At that point we were too stuffed to even imagine smoking a shisha. We chilled and chit chatted for some time while watching the game before we called it a night and moved on to one of my mate’s homes for the next rendezvous

So, if we’ve learned anything from this story, is that Mr. International is a great place to visit and that you should usually keep an open mind for most new experiences. This is the address I looked up: Horsh Tabet, Boulevard Sainte Rita, Behind Fransabank, Sin El Fil, Metn (to make sure the venue hasn’t relocated in the last few years).  If you’re visiting and taking a cab, they would easily be able to find this place for you.

The place is surrounded by one of several neighbourhoods in the area. The people there would be more than happy to help people in need due to the famed Lebanese sense of hospitality.

That's it for this one, stay safe, eat well and drink responsibly!
