How long was your scholarship? How much money did you receive for support?

Well, my scholarship wasn't Erasmus, it was from the Brazilian government. It was one year long and I got 870 euros a month.

What's the student lifestyle like in Barcelona?

Well, on the campus I haven't met many Spanish people, but it is easier to make friends with the other Erasmus students. The lecturers at the university are really helpful. I had my classes in Catalan, but I think that there were classes taught in English as well.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Barcelona to other students?

Yes, of course. For me it is the best city possible to do an exchange, there is everything you need. Good universities, parties, people from all over the world, places to relax, places to learn; it's a city that never sleeps.

What's the country's food like?

There is lots of variety, but I don't eat out of the house much because sometimes it can be quite expensive.

Was it difficult to find accommodation in Barcelona?

I was quite lucky, I found my flat while I was in Brazil through Facebook and it was an amazing flat... I stayed there for my whole time in Barcelona.

How much does it cost to live in Barcelona?

My grant was enough for me to live on, my fixed expenses were my rent and bills (electricity, water, gas, internet) and that was more or less 370-400 euros a month. And that's because I lived in a very central flat with a double room.

How is the language? Did you go on a course at the university?

For me, Portuguese is my mother tongue so the languages have been quite easy for me to understand. More Spanish than Catalan but in Barcelona, a lot of people speak English.

What's the cheapest way for you to get to Barcelona from your hometown?

Well from my city, the easiest way is to get a flight to Lisbon and another direct flight from Lisbon to Barcelona.

What places do you recommend for nightlife in Barcelona?

On Mondays Opium and Shoko are popular, on Tuesdays Sala Apolo, Wednesdays is Razzmatazz, Thursdays Otto or Bling Bling, and Fridays and weekends there are lots of options depending on your music taste.

What about eating out in Barcelona? What are your favourite places?

Well, I like 100 Montaditos, Senyor Vermut and El Rodizio (which does Brazilian food). And for tapas I recommend La Carrer de Blai (Blai Street), where there are lots of bars.

What about sightseeing?

Barcelona has lots of places to see: museums, Park Guell, Park Montjuic, Casa Batllo, La Pedrera, Laberinto, the 1992 Olympics areas.. there are lots of options.
