Maria's Barcelona Experience

How was living in Barcelona for you? Would you recommend it? How was it?

Barcelona is a city full of diverse cultures, due to the amount of tourism it receives, alongside the Catalan culture.

I'd recommend visiting Barcelona: the centre but also the outskirts, to make the most of the museums and the excellent food. Although the centre is pretty expensive, the outskirts are cheaper. It's very big, with plenty of public transport options.

Barcelona embodies the city, the mountains, and the beach...

What's the student atmosphere like?

There are plenty of well-renowned institutions in Barcelona. I study Design and there are plenty of good art schools here.

What's the cost of living like?

Living in Barcelona is expensive, whether you rent a flat/house or rent a room in a shared flat with others.

Was it difficult finding accommodation in Barcelona? Could you give any advice?

Sorry - I'm from Barcelona!

What's the Catalan cuisine like? ¿What are your favourite dishes?

Butifarra de Rovellons (sausages with mushrooms), calçots with a sauce or garlic, crema catalana, etc. Very tasty food!

Which places would you recommend visiting?

Plaça Catalunya, La Rambla, Plaça Espanya & The National Museum of Catalonian Art, The Arc de Triumf, The Picasso Museum, Tibidabo, etc.

And to eat, what are your favourite places?

Yes, these days it's great to use the mobile apps like 'La Nevera Roja' etc., you can ask for anything from your favourite restaurant.

Where would you recommend for going out in Barcelona?

  • The clubs in Cerdanyola del Vallès: Mamma Mandawa, Mundo Canibal,
  • In Sala Apolo, in the Raval district there are club nights and concerts,
  • And in the mountains there are a lot of organised raves.

Any advice for future students in Barcelona?

To live in Barcelona you need a bit of money, only as the centre is so expensive, but the outskirts (Sabadell, Terrasa, Rubí, etc) are much cheaper.
