Hayk's Experience in Barcelona, Spain
What attracts you to living in Barcelona? Do you recommend it? What's it like?
Great! Barcelona is a city that very few people really know. It has everything anyone could want in a city. There are shops on every corner, it has the best public transport in Europe, very low prices (few people know where to find them), great people, beaches, mountains and perfect weather.
What's the student lifestyle like in Barcelona?
The students in Barcelona adopt our customs; Thursdays are for the students, that is, on Thursdays, you go to a bar that will be full of students. Our educational system may not be the best but our students are very good. You can find very engaging people with whom you can talk about anything and everything.
How much does it cost to live in Barcelona?
A month's rent in a flat in Barcelona with food, electricity, gas and water for a student would be between €1000-1500.
Was it difficult to find accommodation in Barcelona? Do you have any advice?
It's very easy to find accommodation. My advice is to talk to students who come from abroad and rent a flat between 4 people. It would probably be about 350 euros each.
What’s the country’s food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Mediterranean gastronomy is the healthiest in the world, so I would say that we have the best food in the world.
The paella, the seafood soup, bread with tomato, Asturian meat burgers.
What places do you recommend visiting in Barcelona?
- The Gothic Quarter
- Laberinto de Horta
- The Colourful Fountains
- Castelldefels Beach
and a thousand more places!
What about eating out in Barcelona? What are your favourite places?
· Bacoa (Ronda de la Universitat, 31, 08007 Barcelona)
· La Tagliatella
· 100 Montaditos
· La Suerña
Where do you recommend for nightlife in Barcelona?
· Bling Bling (Avenida Diagonal - Diagonal Avenue)
· Sutton
· Pacha, Catwalk, Opium, Hotel W (Barceloneta beach)
· Elephant (Pedralbels)
Do you have any advice for future students in Barcelona?
Barcelona is a great city for students, but not everything is as beautiful as it seems as unemployment in Spain is over 20%, which makes it difficult for you to find a job.
In Spain, your level of education is not valued, the important thing is if your father has contacts. The salary isn't very good and we pay made-up taxes to cover losses caused by people with influence. So my advice to you is that come to train here, but when you finish, look for something in England, Germany or France.
