What is it like to live in Barcelona? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It is definitely an amazing place to be in especially when you are searching for knowledge and experiences.I would recommend it if you are looking for affordable, innovative courses coupled with pleasant weather in Europe.

What is the student lifestyle like in Barcelona?

Barcelona has around 12 universities offering a variety of courses. I feel its best for design and creative streams especially architecture and off course Business too! As a student you will find numerous opportunities to grow. The city is very welcoming and makes you feel at home in no time and guaranteed you'll never be bored!

How much does it cost to live in Barcelona?

Like any other place you are in total control of your lifestyle and thus your expenses.. Its definitely cheaper compared to its European counter parts. Normal rates:
accommodation 300 to 350, grocery 30-50, travel by public transport 40.
Monthly minimum for a student is around 700 Euros.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Barcelona? Is there any advice you can give?

Plenty of accommodations available all around the year.. (although summer rates are higher) you just have to look in the right place. Begin here Erasmus and also other websites like loquo and idealista are good. But its always better to go see the place and then sign a contract.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Spanish food can be a little bland for people from Asia and South America.. But I like the food here like paella, chocolat con churros, patata bravas are my favorites. In Barcelona you can find a variety of cuisines since its a tourist destination.

What places would you recommend visiting in Barcelona?

Well it depends on your interest. Sun lovers hit the beach, shoppers Passeig de gracia & shops near placa catalunya, architects (have a tough job) BCN pavilion, Gaudi buildings, Torre agbar and many many more all around the city.. Art? Picasso museum, can't miss! Seafood at villa Olympica beach, MX for hot-chocolate, night clubs hit Opium/Razzmatazz, skateboarding at MACBA.. I can go on and on..

Is it good to eat out in Barcelona? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

mentioned above

Is the nightlife good in Barcelona? Where is good to go?

mentioned above.

What advice would you give future students headed to Barcelona?

Knowledge of Spanish is useful but not an absolute necessity (unless you are looking for jobs) especially since its a multicultural society and also because the locals speak Catalan. Make use of all student privileges in the city from libraries to travel cards. While travelling be careful of your belongings especially in metro. Carry good winter clothes it can get real chilly in winters. Above all open your minds and absorb the goodness of this beautiful city!Welcome to Barcelona.
