Experience in Barcelona, Spain by Anna
What is it like to live in Barcelona? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
It is a great big European city but with the advantage of the good weather. It has mountain and sea and different neighbourhoods that can suit everyone’s likings. It is very crowded, though, and can be very full of people at times. I would recommend it anyway. It’s worth it.
What is the student lifestyle like in Barcelona?
Barcelona has many universities and faculties spread over the city and provides a great environment to meet people and make friends. Most universities are inside the city, so all leisure activities are near, within minutes of walking.
How much does it cost to live in Barcelona?
It is rather expensive, like other big European cities, but can be affordable.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Mediterranean food is great, healthy and varied. I like many dishes, but especially pasta, pizza, gazpacho, pà amb tomàquet (bread with tomato), ham, etc. You can also find food stores and restaurants that have food from all places in the world. Barcelona is cosmopolitan in all ways.
What places would you recommend visiting in Barcelona?
All Gaudí places like Sagrada Família, Casa Batlló, Park Güell, la Pedrera, etc. Also, Collserola mountains, the beaches, Gracia neigbourhood, Poblenou neighbourhood, Montjuïc mountain, etc.
Is it good to eat out in Barcelona? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
It is great. You have so many possibilities and can choose between different types of food. I like La Tagliatella, Toca Teca, Pure Cuisine, La Panxa del Bisbe, Egarri, etc.
What advice would you give future students heading to Barcelona?
Be open-minded, try to enjoy Catalan culture and discover all the different places Barcelona has to offer.
