Erasmus Experience in Barcelona, Spain by Victoria
Why did you choose to go to Barcelona, Spain?
Because it was close to home (Portugal), and it was a city that I thought would give me the opportunity to open doors. I ended up staying and I'm now living in Barcelona thanks to my Erasmus internship.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I did an internship for 1 month, and I was provided around 400€. I don't really remember as it was 1 year and a half ago.
What is the student lifestyle like in Barcelona?
Barcelona has a variety of choices, you can find lots of different places where you can study adapting to what you like: libraries, coffees, parks, etc.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Barcelona to other students?
Yes, of course.
What is the food like?
In my opinion, the food here has too many components, which makes me choose carefully what to eat.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Barcelona?
The accommodation was provided by the company in which I made my internship.
How much does it cost to live in Barcelona?
For a single person paying for a single room around 1000€.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
I'm from Portugal which has a really similar language to the Spanish language.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Barcelona from your city?
By plane for sure.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Barcelona?
There are so many places from which you can choose depending on what you like.
- Techno: City hall, Macarena, Moog, R33
- Commercial Music: Opium, Shoko, beach clubs most of them.
- Hip-Hop, RnB: BLVD
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Barcelona?
There are not as many choices as there are for discos and clubs.
But you can still find a few: Cervecería Catalana, 100 Montaditos, La Roda, Japon restaurant, etc.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Sagrada Familia, Bunkers del Carmel, Parc Güel, Casa Batlló, La Pedredra, el Port Olimpic... there are too many things to name all of them.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Barcelona in the future?
I think that Erasmus is doing a great job, giving the opportunity to people like me who don't have possibilities to travel or to study in a different country.
I live in Barcelona, I'll be happy to work with Erasmus, I'm available for any kind of job you'd like to offer, note that I speak 4 languages (Portuguese, Spanish, French and English) which can be a benefit not only for me but also for you.
Many thanks,
Victoria Mota
