Erasmus Experience in Barcelona, Spain by Rafik
Why did you choose to go to Barcelona, Spain?
Barcelona La Vida Loca!
The city that never sleeps! Barcelona has always impressed me when it came to the parties and beach life. I remember since I was a teenager my dream was to experience living in Barcelona. When I arrived in Barcelona I felt right away the Spanish life with Spanish music in every street corner and people dancing. It was almost like the city was whispering it never sleep! With its amazing tapas bar, Flamenco dance, beach and many nightclubs Barcelona is truly a stunning city that wont let you down!
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
The scholarship was for 5 months, I received around 300 euro per month. However I am a Danish citizen, and in Denmark we get something called SU, which is around 1000 euro every month. So maybe you will get more as an Erasmus student.
What is the student lifestyle like in Barcelona?
Barcelona is absolute one of the best cities for students. Barcelona is an international city so it's easy to make friends from all over the world, in fact there is so much activity and meetings that it's impossible to not make new friends in Barcelona. I had an amazing experience meeting new friends from all over the world, friends that I am still in contact with today. I can with all my respect for other cities, say that Barcelona offers the best student life in the world.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Barcelona to other students?
Yes I think everyone should try at least once in their life, study or live in Barcelona. There are some down sides of course. Barcelona is a smoking city and it's not easy to avoid the second-hand smoke (cigarettes and weed). Unless if you like smoking.
