Erasmus Experience in Barcelona, Spain by Panagiotis
Why did you choose to go to Barcelona, España?
It was one of the suggested cities, which has similar faculty with the city i study. The second reason was the beauty and the fact that i would surely have great time here.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
The scolarship is 4. 5 months. I received 1650€ from the programm which is the 80% of the whole ammount. If i pass a specific number of courses, i will receive the rest 20%.
What is the student lifestyle like in Barcelona?
It always depends on your goals and your character. If you decide to be a very consistent student you have to spent lot of hours to the university which means that your main free time will be at the weekend.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Barcelona to other students?
I recomend the city for sure. Now, about the university, it depends to the faculty. But i would recomend my university too.
What is the food like?
The city has some special food like every country has. Its good
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Barcelona?
Its very difficult to find a house here. I spent my first 2 weeks here at hostels because it was a big confusion to find a house and a very expensive procedure too. An agent from a real estate told us that is the second city in Europe with the highest fees and difficulty to find a house.
How much does it cost to live in Barcelona?
It always depends to the person and the money he or she can spend. But generally its an expensive city with expensive life. If you find the suitable way for some things you will make it little bit friendlier to your wallet.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Personally, i dont speak spanish and in university all of our courses are in English. Of course there are spanish courses. Maybe its helpful.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Barcelona from your city?
I think by airplane.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Barcelona?
There are soo many places you can go and depends on the day. There are every day free entrances to different clubs or places. You have to search it.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Barcelona?
I dont use to go out eating because i cook at home but there are some "all you can eat" restaurants that are very good.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Museum, temples, squares, etc.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Barcelona in the future?
Firtly i advise them to be careful about their accomondation and the area the will stay. This city is a paradise, so no matter the like they will find the company and the way to have a crazy Erasmuslife.Dont forget that you can live an experience like this only once.
