Why did you choose to go to Barcelona, Spain?

I have always wanted to live in Barcelona, but when it came to applying for an Internship, I applied for 100 in England. I decided randomly to apply for my job in Barcelona, when I got it, I suddenly realized how lucky and amazing this experience would be. I have never lived in a big city before.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

My internship is 10 months which finishes end of March, but I love it that much that I have decided to apply for summer jobs and stay out here until I have to go back home for University. I get quite a lot help.

What is the student lifestyle like in Barcelona?

Student lifestyle here is amazing. I joined the Erasmus Barcelona Group with Shaz list and you get amazing meet ups, nights out and you meet tons of new friends.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Barcelona to other students?

Yes. It is the most incredible city. Everyone is really friendly, there are lots of public holidays where Spain celebrates with parades.

There is so much for you to do.

What is the food like?

I love the food. Tapas is my diet now, you have an amazing selection of food. Especially away from the center of town. Although I do recommend Bacoa Burger.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Barcelona?

It did cost me because I only had 3 weeks to find an apartment and people on Idealista weren't responding to me about a room. So i spent a bit more money on a booking fee through Spot a Home but it was a really easy process.

How much does it cost to live in Barcelona?

It is quite costly to live in the centre, but is cheaper outside the city. I live about a 15 minute walk from the center of Barcelona. But I have a small room with a single bed, I don't mind because I don't spend much time in there and rather be outside. It costs me 365 Euros for rent and all bills.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

I already know Spanish as I have studied it for 12 years. But even that did not prepare me for the language here because they also speak Catalan. I do not go to university here as I work but there is an app called Memrise which is free and teaches you vocab. Also once you are around the language it is easy to pick it up and Podcasts are great!

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Barcelona from your city?

The metro is the best way to get about, of course you can walk about but Barcelona is a big city and your feet will hurt. The metro is quick and easy to understand. It is also very cheap, only 2. 15 euros for a single ticket. I recommend you get a T10, it is a ticket worth 10 journeys for 9-10 euros.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Barcelona?

I do love the bars here. I recommend George Payne Irish Bar, Juanita Lala, Mint Bar and Michael Collins. For clubs, I recommend Pacha, Shoko and Otto Zutz, If you get onto Erasmus lists, you normally get entry free and a free drink and dinner.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Barcelona?

MakamakaBurger Restaurant on the front of the beach, Bacoa Bar and Pura Brasa. My 3 favourites.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Sagrada Familia, I am lucky enough to live next to it. Park Guell, Tibidabo, Casa Batllo and Mila and Camp Nou.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Barcelona in the future?

Just enjoy it and have fun. It is such a great experience, you will fall in love with the city. Be careful of pickpockets, I have never been robbed but heard people who have. As long as you are careful you will be fine!
