Why did you choose to go to Barcelona, Spain?

Erasmus+ Internship offer available for Barcelona, new country for me, new experience, new language, new culture...

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

3 month internship in web-marketing. Erasmus+ grant of roughly 750 Euro (for the whole period).

What is the student lifestyle like in Barcelona?

Very social, there is always something to do and somewhere to go, be it a party, a gallery, a museum, some tapas bars, a park, a view point over the city, etc. Barcelona is a very international city. Not knowing Spanish won't hinder you much, at least so it is for me.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Barcelona to other students?

Definitely. 100% worth it!

What is the food like?

Predominantly Mediterranean. There is something for every taste in the Spanish / Catalan cuisine. Good fruit & veggies can be bought at local veggie stores. Also a lot of international places around... Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Bulgarian, English, Lebanese, etc.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Barcelona?

No. Try to find a place through Erasmusu or Idealista. It isn't difficult to get a place without paying fees for contacting people.

How much does it cost to live in Barcelona?

It can be pricy, especially if you go out to eat and drink often. My room in a shared flat in Sants costs 350 Euro per month, including everything. Depending on the neighbourhood and the condition of the flat, this would be an average price.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

I haven't even tried much with the language, too busy with other things. English is the official language at my office and for the basic things, just a few phrases of Spanish are enough.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Barcelona from your city?

Take a flight.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Barcelona?

Clubs at the beach for a mainstream party, bars in Gotico and Gracia for food & drinks; Apolo, Teatre Principal & Barts for gigs.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Barcelona?

  • "El Tropezón" in Gotico
  • The bars on Plaça Osca
  • Can Majo in Barceloneta for sea food & paella

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

  • Tibidabo
  • Picasso museum
  • Sagrada Familia
  • La Catedral
  • Plaça Espanya & the magic fountains
  • Montjuic cemetery

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Barcelona in the future?

Pay attention to your belongings. I haven't been robbed yet but know people who have. As for the rest, just enjoy the whole experience!
