Diana's Experience in Barcelona, Spain

What attracts you to living in Barcelona? Do you recommend it? What's it like?

It's the best city in the world. I live here, and although I love travelling and getting to know other cities, I am sure that I will always come back to Barcelona. It is a warm, fun city and above all it's friendly. Its landscapes are beautiful and they transport you from time to time depending on the neighbourhood you go to. The people are especially nice, as well as being really helpful to people who can get lost in the city. The weather is perfect, it's not very cold in winter and in summer it has a perfect temperature to go to the beach, which is also very close. Overall, it's an exemplary city.

What's the student lifestyle like in Barcelona?

Perfect! Our universities have parties practically every week, in order to bring students together and de-stress from our studies. The people here live to party and they always want more. But it's not all about partying, on the subject of studies, many people offer their help for free or do exchanges for the other person's help with something.

How much does it cost to live in Barcelona?

It's not expensive, from the point of view of a Millenial. It's true that leisure and other activities can sometimes be a bit expensive, but food is a great price unlike in other countries as we have lots of supermarket chains where the prices are really cheap.

Was it difficult to find accommodation in Barcelona? Do you have any advice?

I have always lived here but I have friends who have come from abroad and from their experience, it doesn't cost that much. There is lots of student accommodation near the universities as well as shared flats where you can rent a room.

What’s the country’s food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food is exquisite. You will find a lot of variety, such as Italian, Chinese, Moroccan, and... Spanish! It is easy to immerse yourself in foods from other countries, but it is a crime if you come to Barcelona and don't eat food from the region itself!

What about eating out in Barcelona? What are your favourite places?

I love the place called La Celestina, where they have amazing teas, shishas and other things. Also, a little further away from Barcelona, el Takua, in Castelldefells is great as it's next to the beach and offers hamburgers with smoothies and chips which are delicious. Another place that I love is the Barbarossa in Ciutadella, which has a variety of great burgers!

Where do you recommend for nightlife in Barcelona?

I recommend Malalts de festa, Oak, Catwalk, Bikini Barcelona... anywhere is cool to go out!

Do you have any advice for future students in Barcelona?

Come and enjoy it, because this city is for living!
