Day trips from Barcelona
Hello again everyone!
I'm going to talk about mini visits or trips that you can do from Barcelona. Of course, I recommend the big cities like Madrid (for which I have a dedicated post), Seville, Santiago de Compostela, etc. But in this post I'm going to talk about two cities in the Catalonia region which are both situated quite close to Barcelona.
Cataluna is made up of four provinces. Barcelona, Tarragona, Lérida and Girona. I haven't been to Lérida so can't give an opinion on that, but I highly recommend visiting Tarragona and Gerona.
Catalonia is situated in the north-east of Spain

You can get to both these cities by train or coach (if you're a large group). And although you can visit each of these cities in a day, I suggest going for a weekend and also visiting the nearby places, and you could consider renting a car. If you go in summer, you can enjoy the stunning coves, especially in the Girona area.
Tarragona is situated south of Barcelona. It's a Roman city and it has an amphitheatre, Roman viaduct, cathedral, Mediterranean viewpoint, promenade and various monasteries. Also, walking through their streets lined with shops and full of history is an obligatory activity in order to get to know the city more. It is part of the Costa Dorada (Golden Coast). Along this coast you will also find two beautiful towns, which I will speak about in a future post; they're called El Roc de Sant Gaietà and Sitges.

Girona is situated north of Barcelona and is part of the Costa Brava (Rugged Coast) which is the best coastline in Catalonia (in my opinion and according to those who have been there), in particular the Santa Susana and Begur coves, and Aro beach. Rosas is a really pretty town near to Girona, and if you have the time, don't miss out on going there. In Girona, you can visit the Sant Pere de Rodes monastery, walk along the city wall, see the cathedral and various churches, the iron port, the Arabic baths, the promenade and Aiguablava beach (blue waters) and the town hall.

If you have to choose one, although getting there is expensive, I would opt for Girona. It's an absolutely charming city and you will be captivated by it without a doubt.
And that brings us to the end of today's post! Remember that I will write a dedicated post to the Spanish capital, as well as for the towns of Sitges and Roc de Sant Gaità. I hope you'll take my recommendations into account and don't hesitate to visit these wonderful places.
See you soon!
