I chose to go to Barcelona because of my masters course (Urban Design), as it is one of the most developed cities in Europe in this field.

How long was your scholarship? How much money did you receive for support?

I didn't have a scholarship. But I spend around 700 euros a month which I get from a loan from the government in my home country.

What's the student lifestyle like in Barcelona?

It is a student city that works really well. It is full of cultural spaces, libraries, it's very well-connected with an excellent transport network that is safe and efficient.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Barcelona to other students?

Yes, I would recommend it.

What's the country's food like?

The food is very good and varied. It's very good, but you'll always have the opportunity to buy whatever you want at the supermarket for a good price and you can prepare your own food without losing the customs of your own country.

Was it difficult to find accommodation in Barcelona?

Yes, it was difficult for me to find something for a good price. There is lots of speculation, lots of people take advantage of foreigners by charging them extortionate prices. There is a difference that they have not made clear...it's one thing to come to Barcelona as a tourist and another as a student... they charge everyone the tourist prices.

How much does it cost to live in Barcelona?

Personally, I spend 900 euros a month.

How is the language? Did you go on a course at the university?

I did a very good basic Catalan course... I didn't have any problems with the language though because I'm a Spanish speaker.

What's the cheapest way for you to get to Barcelona from your hometown?

I have to get there by plane.

What places do you recommend for nightlife in Barcelona?

Depending on what you like there are lots of good places in the old town.. El Bornes, El Ramal etc. I also recommend a place in Barcelona called Amarte 69. On Thursdays, they have salsa and merengue music and you can also get really good food at the Cerveza Moritz bar.

What about eating out in Barcelona? What are your favourite places?

Well, I don't go out to eat much in order to save money, but I can recommend the Catalan food at Julivert Meu, it's a good option for students. Normally you will have somewhere close to where you live that does homemade food (hopefully Catalan food as it's really good). I lived in Ensanche and there is a bar in Urgell y Concell de Sent which is called Bar Urgell.. the food there is really good.

What about sightseeing?

There are lots of places... the Palau of Catalan Music, the Museum of Catalan Art in Montjuic. Among others, there are Ciutadella Park, Montserrat Monastery and the Gracia neighbourhood.
