Barcelona is magic
How do you find living in Barcelona? Do you recommend it? How is it?
It's an exceptional city. The picturesque architecture of the city is mixed together with the cosmopolitan life, which is found in the streets. On a cultural level, Barcelona has a large number of museums which won't leave anyone indifferent. Regarding leisure, there are many options so you never get bored.
How is student life in Barcelona?
Barcelona is a big city and therefore, we don't find the student ambient which is breathed in other small cities. As that the city houses many universities, there is a great international student atmosphere anyway. The students coming from other countries only need to put themselves in contact with their university's ESN (or any other Erasmus organization) and start enjoying Barcelona!
How much does it cost to live in Barcelona?
Barcelona isn't an exclusively expensive city, although it is more so than the rest of Spain. Flats usually cost between €250 and €400.
Was it hard to find accommodation in Barcelona? Can you give any advice?
No. In being a city which receives many students, there is an ample supply of accommodation. The best thing the future student can do, is join any student social networks (such as Erasmusu) or the 'Erasmus Barcelona' groups on Facebook.
Personally, I believe that the student residences aren't a good option economically. The rent for a room in a shared flat is much cheaper.
How is the country's food? What are your favourite dishes?
Barcelona has a great gastronomic culture. The city has many neighbourhood markets, where the food sold is fresh, good and cheap. Their own food is abundant and from the Mediterranean diet, which is one of the most well balanced in the world: fruit, vegetables and greens, fish, meat...
Which places do you recommend to visit in Barcelona?
All of them, and not just the tourist ones. The most unexpected corners of Barcelona can end up being the most beautiful. It's best to wander around the Born or the Gothic quarter and discover, because Barcelona is synonymous with magic.
And to go out to eat in Barcelona? Can you list your favourite places?
I don't have favourite places but I would recommend future students to avoid the restaurants in the tourist places, like those in la Rambla since they are very expensive and the food isn't so good. In Barcelona, it's best to wander around and in this way, you can find small and lesser-known bars, that are excellent value for money.
Which places do you recommend to go out and party in Barcelona?
All types of music have a place in Barcelona.
Barcelona is a very alternative city:
Razzmatazz is the city night's benchmark. It's open every day of the week. On the weekends, entry is expensive but all of the rooms are open and lovers of alternative music will thank you for stretching their belts a bit to enjoy Razzmatazz. It should be added that on Wednesdays the night is called Dirty Dancing and although the commercial music dominates the night, the party is guaranteed - above all because the atmosphere is exceptional (and ESN members have free entry until 2! ).
Apolo is another option for Indie music lovers. The strongest days are Mondays ('Nasty Mondays') and Tuesdays ('Crappy Tuesdays'). You can get free entry on the guest lists, although this is usually very limited and practically everyone ends up paying (around €12, drink included).
Another popular party area is Port Olímpic. Here, many chic clubs can be found and you can get in for free until a certain hour on the guest lists, which are published on social networks like facebook by their public relations.
Barcelona is a very gay friendly city. For the gay public, there is the well-known Gaixample, an area of Eixample which has a large number of gay bars, clubs and even hotels. The best known nightclub is Arena, which has three establishments and a place for everyone. What's more, if you're going to have a drink in the Punto bar (which is around 5-10 minutes from the club), they give out incitements for Arena.
Any advice that you want to give to any future students of Barcelona?
I advice them to charge their batteries. Barcelona is a place where anything can happen and where life passes by very quickly.
