What is it like to live in Banska Bystrica? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Haha, interesting question. As long as you have many friends or international group of people around you, its definitely FUN! I would recommend it because the city is nice, its cheap and it has a good location. You can rent a car and go to High Tatras or to visit another beautiful places. Slovakia is such a beautiful and affordable country. Banská Bystrica is less busy than the capital city - Bratislava.

What is the student lifestyle like in Banska Bystrica?

As a student you have to many organizations which you can join. The Matej Bel University is really big and there are plenty of events which you can join. Also the city life, almost in every cafeteria you can find a pub quiz once in a week. You also can find a good gym or other sport activities.. Depends what you like.

How much does it cost to live in Banska Bystrica?

Haha, almost nothing. Im sure your scholarship will cover everything (including alcohol). For example, rent is 70 €/month if you decide to stay in dormitory, which is pretty decent. They are clean, renovated.. One cappuccino in the city is like 1,80€.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Banska Bystrica? Is there any advice you can give?

I definitely recommend Dormitory- ŠD 3, Tajovského 51. That dormitory is good, full of students and rooms are renovated, clean.. you also can have a single room for 70€/month I lived there for 5 years, and it was great.

Is the nightlife good in Banska Bystrica? Where is good to go?

Yes! The most famous and also the biggest club in the Slovakia is MINISTRY OF FUN. The best parties are there. But there are more in the city as - Piano, AlterEgo, Ponorka...

What advice would you give future students heading to Banska Bystrica?

Just stay humble and polite to other people.
