What is it like to live in Banska Bystrica? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Banska Bystrica is very a small, but nice city with the long history. On the main square you can find many various and comfortable cafés, restaurants and bars. Banska Bystrica is surrounded by mountains which gives you many opportunities to skiing in winter time as well as hicking in summer.

What is the student lifestyle like in Banska Bystrica?

In Banska Bystrica is one of the most famous university calles UMB, tah´s why there are many students also from other cities, who are comming to study there.

How much does it cost to live in Banska Bystrica?

The living cost are not that high as in capital city Bratislava. You can find a very nice flat for 100 euros/month. There are many restaurants you can it in, where the typical lunch costs ccca 7 eurous including soup, main course and drink, but depends what you like and what you prefer.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Banska Bystrica? Is there any advice you can give?

I don´t have many experiences with searching for accomodation there since it´s my hometown, but i am sure there are some web pages where studets offer some flats to rent or look for an flatmate. I woud recommend to ask some students in school.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Our typical dish is called Halusky, it´s made from potatoes with special cheese on top. We have a lot of food made from potatoe and the second useful ingrediance is cheese. We eat a lot of kinds of meet as well fish.

What places would you recommend visiting in Banska Bystrica?

I would recommend to go to Urpin, Šachtičky and also Donovaly, which are 20 minutes by car from the center.
From Cafés I definitely recommend Leroy Bar and Café and Beniczky. If you like to dance, go to Ministry of fun or Njoy.

Is it good to eat out in Banska Bystrica? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

I think it´s good but more expensive thank to cooke home. I would recommend Chilli restaurant in Europa shopping center ot Fraise on the main square. i also like Angles, but it´snot that cheap.

Is the nightlife good in Banska Bystrica? Where is good to go?

Ministry of fun or Enjoy in the center

What advice would you give future students heading to Banska Bystrica?

Just take a opportunity to travel also around and see some mountains, because the´re beautiful and the view is awesome.
