Hallstatt - General Information

Hallstatt is a town in the north of Austria, with a backrest facing the mountains and a view of the lake, surrounded by the majestic Alps, there are many fine things to say here. the most beautiful lake in the world, the legendary village... But somehow I was not attracted to this place so much, not affected by the rumors for Hallstatt until I was first to see see it.

I began to feel the serenity of life when the ferry splashed between the four-sided mountain, and gradually looming into the image of peaceful homes quietly nestled in the clear lake with swan birds swimming in the lake, it will be like the weather of Hanoi's early morning, which makes the place look like a water-painting. I saw one of the most beautiful places in Hallstatt is right on the ferry across the lake.

The hostel to stay

I did not spend the night in Hallstatt because of the high price, I rented a room in Salzburg - Austria's fourth largest city and the home of the Mozart composer. I book a room through Booking.com at the A & O Salzburg Hauptbahnhof (point 7. 6 / 10) for 62E / 2 nights, this place is clean, safe, quiet and especially very close to the central station (only about 3 minutes away) butter). I spend one day in Salzburg and one day in Hallstatt, and one day goes to a beautiful lake in Salzburg.

If you are planning to spend the night in Hallstatt then you should rent a hotel near the lake and should book early for the hotel or room. The quality of the hotels here is very high and is well reviewed on Booking.com.

How to get to Hallstatt

There are many ways to go to Hallstatt, but the way people usually go is a little giddy.

I did not go that way, but instead, I went straight from Vienna to Hallstatt and slept one night on the train.

You can read the train journey article here.

However, I will still introduce to you the traditional way that people often go. Since Hallstatt is about 75 km from Salzburg, you can catch bus number 150 from Salzburg to Bad Ischl, buy a ticket for about 10. 6E, go for 1. 5 hours, run from around 6am on weekdays and 6h45 on weekends, the latest trip back to Salzburg is 19h25, see the running time of bus 150 here. You should go early morning and then come back in the day because I see hallstatt for a day is enough (Hallstatt area is quite small, if you are fast passage it takes only 50 minutes, you walk all the way Hallstatt

Ah, before going on this trip I have heard that the road from Salzburg to Bad Ischl is the most beautiful path in Austria, and to be honest I saw it ... beautiful! (with beautifully houses, countless flowers of neatly trimmed fronts, green lawns on the front, far away from the glittering lake in grainy poultry grass, but I have not been out of Austria so it is not clear whether it is the best or not!

In Bad Ischl you can buy a train ticket to the Hallstatt Bahnhof, the station next to the bus station, fare about 4. 2E, go 20 minutes to arrive. Down to the station will see the lake in front and I take the ferry Stephanie to the village of Hallstatt, fare is 5E / pass. So the total cost of going to Hallstatt from Salzburg is about 40E.

How to enjoy the best of Hallstatt

I think the best way to enjoy this gorgeous town is to take a stroll on the small streets around the village and try to leave your worries on the ferry to get you here and wander around the pond. Hallstatt is surrounded by majestic Alps, immersed in the fresh air here, I have felt the absolute peace of life. Or you can watch majestic mountain clouds rhythm by boat ride around the lake. I read somewhere that we can take Hallstat cabin to the top of the mountain to see World Heritage View, which is recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage View. However, to save money, I walked to the top of the mountain.

If I were chosen again, I would still walk, because personally I was walking, I could see the whole of Hallstatt, so if you want to save money, you can consider my advice. However, I will say that It will take you 2 hours to go up to the top of the mountain.

World Heritage View

Hallstatt is famous for salt mining in the high mountains so it will be interesting to spend some time visiting the salt cave. But salt cave is only open from May to late October every year, close the rest of the month should you consider the time to fit.
