What is it like to live in Atlanta? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Atlanta is a lovely place to live. I really enjoy the art scene in Atlanta. The High Museum of Art is a work of art in itself, with architecture that has been used as a setting in movies, and it constantly houses top exhibits. In the past, I have seen works of art by Monet and Dali there, walked through the clay armies of China, and stared at the beautiful gowns and carriages of the Hapsburgs in the High's special exhibits. Atlanta also has some great theaters with performances ranging from Shakespeare to edgy-modern works. The Phillips Arena and other large event spaces draw top artists each year, so there is never a lack of great concerts if that is your jam. Many of the universities in town also have concerts at different times of year, like during Homecoming in October.

My favorite part of Atlanta, though, is the art festivals! The Atlanta Arts Festival, Dogwood Festival, Decatur Arts Festival, and Indie Craft Experience are great events to hang out at with friends, find unique gifts and art pieces, hear great music, and eat at fun food trucks. I have many wonderful memories of spending the day at art festivals with my family as a child, and I still go to them now whenever I am in town.

In Atlanta, it is sometimes difficult to get around without a car. But, there is Marta (the rail and bus system), Xpress (a commuter bus system), and Uber. I usually only walk around areas that I know well, or that I know are safe. It is sometimes best to be safe at night and use Uber instead of walking, if you aren't sure of the safety of that area. There are many streets that are very safe, but only one street over can get "sketch".

What is the student lifestyle like in Atlanta?

I went to the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, and I absolutely loved being there. Campus events are plentiful, and most of the students on campus are really focused on learning. This creates a very stimulating environment.

How much does it cost to live in Atlanta?

When I was a student, I paid about $700 a month to live in student housing.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Atlanta? Is there any advice you can give?

Look for apartments that are focused on student housing. They often have shuttles to the major campuses in town. I recommend looking at Westmar Student Lofts.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Yeah! Burger is a very hipster and delicious burger place. Their veggie burger and sweet potato fries are amazing.
Also be on the look-out for Middle Eastern food places around town. Atlanta is very international, so if you get homesick for your national food, there is probably a restaurant that will take you back to your mom's kitchen.
At festivals, look for King of Pops (little carts with umbrellas and a chalkboard sign). They have the best popsicles and are a must-experience in Atlanta.

What places would you recommend visiting in Atlanta?

The High Museum of Art
World of Coke
Georgia Aquarium

Is it good to eat out in Atlanta? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yeah! Burger, Chipotle (a common Mexican food chain), and Chick-fil-a. Head down to Decatur for special occasions, or when you want to spend a bit more cash on a really well-crafted meal.

What advice would you give future students heading to Atlanta?

Make sure to find a local student and ask them where their favorite places are!
