Areopagus - The City Council

This simple rock on a hill above the city of Athens is the orator's stage for the Areopagus, the historical city council of Athens that existed since the 6th century BC. Nobles and magistrates (later also more citizens) would gather here to decide on the state's future!

Areopagus - The City Council

Here we see one of Athens' most gifted speakers, Johannes Chrysostomos, speaking to an international audience (see below) on the future of education, God, and the world in general :P

Areopagus - The City Council

Thanks to my wonderful audience from Ireland! Actually, we also did impro Greek and Latin recitals and would have done rap battles if we had had enough time ... but that was to be saved for other places!

Also the apostle Paul is said to have preached here ... this would have been his perspective on the city and the surrounding hills. Wonderful! I absolutely recommend this place as European democracy was born right here!
