Acropolis Museum 3 - Statues!
Level up! Having come to the last floor of the museum, a huge collection of statues awaited us under the rooftop ... Entering, you would see a small cinema showing a film about the history of the Acropolis with all its destruction, reconstruction and reuse (see my first post on it). Actually, Christians (fanatics?) destroyed the pagan statues from the Parthenon before reusing it as a church around the 4th century AD.
To the left, you could see the main gods of the Pantheon such as Zeus, Athene, Ares, Poseidon, Apollo, Iuno and some winged messengers (Iris?) and heroes.
To the right, you could witness the epic battle between Athene and Poseidon around the olive tree of the Acropolis, fighting over who would become patron of the city (a metaphor for culture and nature AKA the sea fighting over the terrain of the city). Athene won and drove back Poseidon's horses and planted the olive tree on top of the Acropolis, as I already recounted in my last posts.
Under the glass rooftop, you see the reliefs of riding young men (soldiers in training?).
An elder man and a young man is discussing while a woman is holding a child?
Women are transporting water in amphorae on their backs (not on their heads as seen in Africa). Imagine living in a world without running water ... for us today, it has become so normal, but many other people still do not have access to clean drinking water!
These guys are clearly cavalry riding into battle while one soldier is fixing his boots (If you fail to prepare, prepare to fail!). Meanwhile, a video camera is filming them (no, just checking that no stupid tourist vandalises these works of art as done in ther places such as Rome).
That's the museum, time to go outside again!
