Why did you choose to go to Aalborg, Denmark?

Aalborg is a city which has much to offer. I wanted to experience the scandinavian culture and Denmark seemed as a good way of doing so.

Denmark has great beer, education and activities to offer.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

The money I received from my university was not enough to live there for 6 months, however being careful and living as a student, I managed to live comfortably and save money. I received 1475€.

What is the student lifestyle like in Aalborg?

Aalborg must be one of the cities in Denmark most used to receive Erasmus students; it's simply insane how the city is filled in every semester with new faces and new nationalities. There is a very good spirit.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Aalborg to other students?

Most definetly, Aalborg has a very very good universtity, which stands amongst the best in Europe when it comes to Engineering.

What is the food like?

The food is actually very good. If you like meatballs then Denmark is your country. You will understand that there is no better protection against the cold wind than a good meal.

How did you find your accommodation?

The university takes care of your accommodation. I would recommend you to stay in halls of residence Kollegium. There you will meet a lot of new people and have fun.

If you can afford to live in the center, do it. You will find that when you drink, you don't really want to bike home. It can be very difficult sometimes to bike, drunk, in the rain, at night, through places you had never been in.

What are the accommodation prices like? What are prices like for other things in general?

The prices are actually acceptable. The closer you get to the city center, the more expensive it is. But you should know that the main campus of the university stands 5 km away. And the only way to get there would be by bike or bus. The bus being a bit expensive, students usually take their bikes when it's not too rainy. So if you get an accommodation between the center and the main campus, you will be happy.

The supermarkets have daily offers and promotions, and you can easily buy what you want and need for a reasonable price. Of course the beer in the bars is very expensive. Just drink at home.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

The language is simply impossible. You will learn that the more you try the harder it gets. Just drink and say weird sounds. Then you will be closer to speaking Danish.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Aalborg from your city?

From Lisbon to Aalborg, I would most certainly not take the bus. EasyJet has a good system. You can go to Franckfurt and then to Copenhagen. And there you either take the plane or the train to Aalborg. Both cost the same.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Aalborg?

Jomfru Anne Gade - the main night street which is full of bars.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Aalborg?

McDonald's - nothing can beat it.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

There is not much culture around the city. You should however go to Silkkeborg and Aarhus.
