Experience in Aachen, Germany by Lucie-Marie
What is it like to live in Aachen? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Aachen is quite a small town: you can get everywhere by bike or foot, it is easy to get out of the city and into the surrounding nature (Aachener Wald, Eifel).
But it is also a small town regarding culture and lifestyle, eventhough there is a theatre and a symphony orchestra.
There are some good student orchestras and choirs that organise concerts .
How much does it cost to live in Aachen?
You can find quite nice and affordable rooms in Aachen, from student dormitories but also private shared apartements
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Aachen? Is there any advice you can give?
Try "WG-GESUCHT.de" for shared flats. Be friendly and open when applying, as you are applying directly at you flat mates and not at some official bureau or something like that.
There are some church funded dorms (where your religion does not matter). They are nice and very affordable. Again your application will probably be sent directly to the inhabitants as they choose who to live with, so be friendly and honest when applying
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Aachen has a few "special dishes" that are similar to other typical german food.

The Campus Melaten, apart from Universities buildings there is a great view and you can go for a nice walk there

In aachen there are many great chinese reaturants! Try Xian kitchen at Pontstraße and Yan tasty. Madame Tam offers great vietnamese cuisine.
Cheap and very good food you can also get at "Saray" also in POntstraße

Is the nightlife good in Aachen? Where is good to go?
For clubbing you are in the wrong town, the only Club i would recommend (for techno-lovers) is the "musikbunker", but probably it wont open again after corona:(
But Cologne and Düsseldorf are not far away! The clubs there are pretty good!
For grabbing a drink Aachen has very good spots , (Pontstraße) and many others. Try also the Student dormitories' bars, they are fun too
