What is it like to live in Aachen? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Aachen is a well-known student city in Germany. Even though Aachen is a big city, it feels more like a village. You have the feeling that everyone knows everyone else. This is precisely the aspect I find essential if you plan to study in Aachen. You make friends very quickly. You can get to the city center very quickly from anywhere, whether by bus, bike, or foot

What is the student lifestyle like in Aachen?

Most students meet 1-2 times a week in a bar.
The carnival-session is big and a lot of fun!

How much does it cost to live in Aachen?

Housing in Aachen is scarce. That's why the rents are not cheap either. But the residential area is definitely more affordable than other large German cities such as Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, or Cologne.

It cost around 300€ a month in total.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Aachen? Is there any advice you can give?

It can be more difficult for Erasmus students to find accommodation in Aachen, so I recommend renting rooms from the university or asking other Erasmus students in Facebook groups if you can rent their room when you move out.

Otherwise, most students look for a flatshare through WG-gesucht.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

All food is very international and tasty. If you have never been in German before, than you should try "Döner".

And you should try "Aachener Printen" from Klein.

What places would you recommend visiting in Aachen?

Aachener Dom, Elisenbrunnen, Laurensberg

Is the nightlife good in Aachen? Where is good to go?

There are not many clubs in Aachen. There is more of bar culture in the city. Pontstraße is an excellent place to meet up with friends in the evening.

What advice would you give future students heading to Aachen?

just enjoy the city and the student lifestyle.
