Why did you choose to go to Venice, Italy?

Always loved Italian culture. Loved the art, history and food.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

My Erasmus was one semester. September until December (exams in January, which I can't return for).

What is the student lifestyle like in Venice?

Boring. This is the view of myself and my other Irish friend who went there. Nothing to do with your time. Few bars and clubs.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Venice to other students?

No and no. Totally regret choosing Venice if I'm honest.

What is the food like?

Lovely, but you get bored of pasta and pizza very quickly. Definitely try a restaurant called "Bigoli"... amazing!

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Venice?

Not really... 350 per month for student accommodation. In a shared room. Nothing amazing. Simple but affordable.

How much does it cost to live in Venice?

A lot:

  • Rent: 350/month.
  • Food: around 140/month (if you don't eat out). Food shopping is very expensive.
  • Clothes: costs are average- there's a H&M.
  • Travel: you can walk everywhere, but if you need a boat, the card will cost 50 euro, and then you top it up. So 10 journeys was around 6 euro, I think. Or get a monthly subscription for 20 euro, which gives unlimited travel for the month.
  • Books: expensive.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

No, but they offer a lot of language courses. Most people speak English.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Venice from your city?

Ryanair flight. Dublin to Treviso... book early to get cheap flights!

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Venice?

"Skilla" - bar, very small, decent prices, great music and good atmosphere. Many people go to a place called "Molocinque Discoteca". It's Venice's version of a nightclub.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Venice?

"Bigoli"... amazing. and the pizza place across from it. And "Dickens restaurant" across from Skilla in campo.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

The city in general. Just walk about and get lost. Doges palace is cool.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Venice in the future?

Not really.
