What is it like to live in Granada? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

The city is quite small, so it's super easy to go to uni, parties, parks, gym and visit friends. The city is very diverse. Some parts are old and very hippielike, other parts are more fancy and there are many nice areas.

What is the student lifestyle like in Granada?

Some students study a lot, some don't study at all. It mainly depends on your faculty. Everybody goes to parties on Thursdays and Fridays, these are the main 2 days.

How much does it cost to live in Granada?

It is super cheap. You never have to pay for a bus because everything is super near (unless you are lazy). There are tons of tapas bars where you can get a beer and food for only 2 euros. 2-3 tapas and you are already full. The best and the most interesting tapas bars are on Elvira street.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Granada? Is there any advice you can give?

It is very easy to find a place in Granada. You can find a flat on Facebook a few months before your arrival. Personally, I don't recommend it because you can fall into a trap. I found a flat by walking around the city and calling the flat owners (signs and numbers are on the balconies). It's probably the best, the cheapest and the safest way to find a place. Also, you can speak to other people on Facebook who already have a flat.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Obviously paella and seafood. Students don't normally go to a restaurant for nice meals, they just get together for a beer which normally includes food (tapas). Travelling around Spain, I tried many other things as well, mostly seafood, but during my stay in Granada we always went for tapas.

What places would you recommend visiting in Granada?

Obviously everybody has to visit Alhambra which is the most important place in Granada. Furthermore, there is Albayzin which is the old area of the city. When you're on the streets of Albayzin, you should go see the caves (las cuevas) by looking from afar because people live in them.

Is it good to eat out in Granada? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

My favourite tapas bars are La Bella y la Bestia, Los Diamantes, 100 Montaditos, Urban. Los Diamantes offers lots of seafood as tapas. In La Bella y la Bestia they normally give you a burger and french fries which is basically already a meal. After that, one tapa and you don't need more food.

Is the nightlife good in Granada? Where is good to go?

Mae West, Campus are my favourites clubs. There is the biggest nightlife of students. You see Spanish people and all your Erasmus friends there. Also, I would recommend going to Magic (Plaza de Toros) where only Spanish people go. Before going to a nightclub, you have to go to Chupiteria 69 (near Pedro Antonio Street) where they offer all kinds of shots (150 different types) for only 1 euro. You will definitely have a nice hangover the next day. To avoid a hangover, Spanish people recommend to eat churros con chocolate before going to sleep (at 6-7 in the morning).

Also, it is a must to visit Botellodromo. It's a place where all the young people meet before partying. It's just a big square. Everybody brings their bottles, glasses and ice to have a few drinks there. Normally there are about 300-500 people.

What advice would you give future students heading to Granada?

Just don't worry too much about uni and enjoy your life there. Also, don't panic when they're not replying to your e-mails, Spanish people are slow with those kinds of things.
