What is it like to live in Brno? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Brno is very nice and friendly place for students life. Lots of Erasmus students come to Brno every year so there's also multicultural enviroment. Anyway there's also very cheap for foreigners (not so much for us) There are beautiful girls, handsome men and the best beer in the world, if you don't trust me, you should come and see.

What is the student lifestyle like in Brno?

There are lots of places where students can enjoy their free time, from nice cafes, lively pubs, clubs, restaurants to cultural events, sport facilities, beautiful architecture and so on. Students from foreign countries are welcomed and because of buddy systems at all universities, they are also well integrated.

How much does it cost to live in Brno?

it depends on a lifestyle... costs of accomodation varies 2000 - 3500 CZK per person in double room, single bedrooms costs cca 3000 - 7000 CZK, it depends also on location, flats in the center is naturally more expensive; students dormitory costs about 3000 CZK. Food is quite cheap (bread 30 CZK, milk 16 CZK, meals in restaurants sth around 100 CZK, more or less, it depends. Parties entrance goes about 50 CZK ( girls usually free). Transport is quite expensive, but Brno is small and usually you can get everywhere on foot, ticket costs from 20 - 90 CZK, then it's useful to buy ticket for a month which costs round 600 CZK I guess.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Brno? Is there any advice you can give?

No it's not, there are lots of advertisments eg at universities web (Masaryk university is. muni.cz) or also sites on facebook (e. g. Multilingual flats in Brno), or spolubydlici.cz It's good to visit the place before you go to stay there, cause not everything has to be as it is written in advertisment. Usually the prices in advertisments include bills, but not necessary.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Food is tasty, but not everybody has to like it...czech dishes are quite fat and heavy, but there are also italian, indian, chinese or japanese restaurants and also vegetarian ones.

What places would you recommend visiting in Brno?

  • Cafe Podnebí.
  • Špilberk castle, Tugendhat, other galleries and museums and churches, there are lots of beautiful buildings for architecture lovers.
  • Fratelli cafe - great coffee and wine (close to Náměstí Svobody).
  • Eas Village - awesome burgers and other dishes.
  • Pivnice Na stojáka (Jakubské náměstí) - great beer.
  • I don't know now, just ask some czech people and they will tell you where to go for best beer, best coffee or just try and try and try.

Is it good to eat out in Brno? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

I like menu at Cafe Podnebi (Italian cook - cheap and delicious meals), East village - first class burgers, very good czech cuisine is at Stopkova pivnice (Česká street)

Is the nightlife good in Brno? Where is good to go?

Yes! you can choose between concerts, clubs, pubs or other cultural events. Search on facebook or check posters in the city.

What advice would you give future students heading to Brno?
