Experience in Zagreb, Croatia, by Martina
What is it like to live in Zagreb? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
I would recommend Zagreb because a lot of people speak English and they are willing to help you. Parties are really great, there is something for everybody's taste. Croatia in general is one of the cheapest states, but it is going to be cheap for you depends on where do you come from. Transport in Zagreb is pretty good: there are trams and buses, but they are often late.
What is the student lifestyle like in Zagreb?
In my opinion, Zagreb is a great place to be student. You have dormitories that have reasonable price, and they are a great place to meet people. There are also student restaurants that are pretty cheap. The price of the meal does not include taxes, and student pays only one third of receipt, two thirds are financed by government. One menu is around 1€ and it includes soup, meal, salad and a desert/fruit. All you need is student card (Iksica), but you get it when you become student of the University of Zagreb.
There are parties almost every day, and there is also enough time to study. There are a lots of student discounts in stores, cinemas, transport etc.
How much does it cost to live in Zagreb?
Croatia is one of the cheaper countries, and therefore life in Zagreb can be cheap. You can drink cheaper beer and coffee if you drink it in some place that is not in the strict center. In restaurants you can eat for 10€ per person (appetizer, meal, salad, drink).
