What is it like to live in Zagreb? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

As a student living in Zagreb and coming from a small village I think that Zagreb is great, has many events during the entire year, great places to go out and have fun, lots of cute little caffees, nice parks. The traffic is pretty good, maybe a little too expensive for Croatian standard but much better than in other cities in Croatia. And the maybe biggest plus is that it is pretty safe. Sofra at least.

What is the student lifestyle like in Zagreb?

Students that live in student dorms live a typical student life: going to classes, studying, partying, hanging out and many work student jobs to be able to pay for stuff such as coffees, extra clothes, going out etc.

How much does it cost to live in Zagreb?

If you live in student dorms, minimum is 1500 on to live a decent life, and if you live I a flat then costs are at least double that amount.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Zagreb? Is there any advice you can give?

No it isn't. There are many flats available but when you find it on a site you should go and see it personally because pictures often aren't realistic. And before you go to visit, ask around about the prices in that area because people often want to exploit uninformed people interested in renting the apartment. And also, never agree to rent a flat without singingn an agreement. It is not wise to trust anyone's word regarding renting policies.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food is absolutely amazing. We Croatians have a really rich and quality gastronomy and we are very proud of it. I'm not really sure what is my absolute favorite but at top 3 are roasted lamb with potatoes and seasonal vegetables, Dalmatian pašticada and "pod pekom".

What places would you recommend visiting in Zagreb?

Absolutely the city's center, park Zrinjevac and Tomislav, the zoo and the Maksimir park, many cute caffees all over the city, botanical garden and museums.

Is it good to eat out in Zagreb? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

It is good and you can find nice places with affordable prices. One that is like that is Potatoe house, Umami, Nocturno...

Is the nightlife good in Zagreb? Where is good to go?

Yes, there is something for everyone. Since I listen mostly pop, rock, r'n'b, house and such I would recommend "Klub", "History", "Mojo", "Pepper" and if you want to go somewhere with a mix of Croatian and foreign music then I would recommend "Thalia", "Alcatraz" and "10 000 milka pod morem" more known just as "Milja".

What advice would you give future students heading to Zagreb?

Connect with people here, be well informed and have a lot of patience for people who don't speak any English or any other language, the plus is they will at least try to communicate somehow.
