Experience in Zagreb, Croatia, by Andrea
What is it like to live in Zagreb? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Zagreb is not my hometown, I only go to Faculty here. It's absolutely amazing, with it's rich history still living through old part of the city, great festivals and places for relaxation. Zagreb has a lot of beautiful parks, pubs, places to hangout, places for recreation and party. I would definitely recommend it, especially in spring.
What is the student lifestyle like in Zagreb?
I can only speak for myself and it's great balance of studying and partying. There is a lot of positive perks of being a student in Zagreb (eating, public transport, traveling, etc).
How much does it cost to live in Zagreb?
It's middle range of expense. There is affordable places to eat, drink, shop etc. But also there's high class places. All in all, not so much expensive (macchiatto for 1. 50-2€, draft beer 0. 5L about 2. -2. 5€, public transport 1. 5€... ).
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Zagreb? Is there any advice you can give?
There are a lot of motels and new, modern hostels - we even got "the best hostel in Europe".
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Food is amazing! It's combination of middle and eastern Europe with some Mediterranean fusion. There is also a lot of Asian, Korean, Japanese, middle eastern restaurants. Street food restaurants are now very popular (and very good! ).
What places would you recommend visiting in Zagreb?
Old Town, Jarun lake, Medvednica mountain (hiking on Sljeme), The Main Square, etc.
Is it good to eat out in Zagreb? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
"Mundoaka street food" is my favourite place. There is also great restaurants on Dolac market place. You can try great sushi in "Binimoto" or have some coffee at "Amelie" with a view on the cathedral. You can also go to Tkalča street and enjoy vivid atmosphere with lots of great pubs and bars.
Is the nightlife good in Zagreb? Where is good to go?
Very good! A lot of parties and places to go out also in Tkalča street and on Jarun lake.
What advice would you give future students heading to Zagreb?
Enjoy Zagreb with every sense of yours!
