How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

For me it's from the end of February until the end of June. I receive 600 euros per month.

What is the food like?

In Zagreb are Pizza and Kebab place every 10 steps you walk. Yeah, I'm serious - so many fast food restaurants.

The best and the cheapest normal restaurant is called Nokturno.

Also there are many student restaurants called Menza, where is 50-70% discount. So I normally spend around 10 kunas for a big portion.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Zagreb?

I looked for accommodation on Facebook, there were plenty of options and no, it didn't cost me anything... only time.

How much does it cost to live in Zagreb?

Dorms are 80 euros, room in an apartment 150-350. I live near the centre and I pay 300 euros. I would advice to pay as little as possible for accommodation because most of the time you will be out (travelling, partying, studying, drinking coffee with friends).

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

For me, it is kind of easy because a lot of words are similar to the Russian language. But I don't plan to learn it. I just know the most popular words. And yes, there are courses.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Zagreb?

Many Erasmus students go to Ziraffa (cheap beer).

But I would recommend Vintage Industrial bar where every weekend are concerts. Mostly tribute bands (I went to The Beatles and Led Zeppeling).

Also clubs Peppermint and Moon are good.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Zagreb?

The best are:

  • Nokturno

  • Good Food
  • Cookie factory

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Many museums, for me the best ones :

  • Museum of Broken relationships

  • Museum of Illusions

  • Torture museum

Many churches.

Street art on many buildings and walls.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Zagreb in the future?

I think it will be an amazing experience and it doesn't really matter which city you choose. Just enjoy!
