As Majorcan I am..., I have to introduce a bit in the Balearics, especially since it is the island that I know best, Mallorca.

Mallorca (from Latin insula maior, later Maiorica 'big island') is the largest island in the Balearic archipelag, which forms a single-province autonomous region, the easternmost of Spain. Like the Balearic Islands Menorca, Ibiza, Formentera and Cabrera, Mallorca is a major tourist destination. 3625. 75 km ² and has 862, 397 inhabitants according to the Census 2009 (population density: 257. 85 inhabitants / km ²). It is also known as Island of calm.

Its capital and also the autonomous region, is Palma de Mallorca, followed in importance by the towns of Inca and Manacor. Cabrera Island and all islands belong administratively to the capital. It is the most populated island in the Balearics.

The relief consists of Mallorca Serra de Tramuntana, with the highest mountains, the Serra de Llevant, with more modest elevations, and other smaller amounts. The Sierra de Tramuntana in the northwest form dramatic cliffs and rocky coves that contrast with the sandy beaches of the rest of the coast. The;Pla; is the fertile central plain. To the west of this plain and in the middle of the bay of Palma is located in the capital. The highest point is in the Sierra de Tramuntana, Puig Major (1445m).

Mallorca receives about 15 million visitors a year primarily due to tourism, which is the most important of the island. This influx of visitors in summer makes the city's population to multiply. It is remarkable the presence of a large number of foreign residents.

The Majorcan climate is typically Mediterranean, with high temperatures in summer (above 30 ° C) and moderately low in winter (rarely below 5 ° C). Being an island, the humidity level is very high.

.....

until next time!
