The old town of Vitoria-Gasteiz is made up of different streets and styles. As it is the capital of the Basque Country, you can't miss the cutlery street (Kutxi). This street has many bars that are visited by people of many different ages and styles. Its variety of music and its good atmosphere manages to attract a lot of people, both in the afternoons and in the evenings.

In several bars along this street, you can find a place to eat some sandwiches or some pintxo (tapas) to snack on. It is located in the highest part of the hill. Near this street, going uphill, you will find the gaztetxe (young people's house). This place is a building where concerts are organised on holidays as well as normal Saturdays. When there aren't any, you can also come in for a drink, as they play music and the bar is open to anyone who wants to enter.

If we go down a street below the cutlery street by the slope, we find the street Pintoreria (Pinto). These bars are more elaborate and you can also come here for a drink and dinner.

On the other side of the old town, we will find the street Zapatería (Zapa). These bars are more of a disco-style with commercial music. With a bit of luck, you can find different offers in various bars and save a lot of money. Along this street, there are bars for people of different ages.

Once all these bars are closed, we will find different clubs according to the style of music you prefer. Normally, people who go to the "kutxi" end up in the People, located next to the Artium museum. This club is quite small and has a wide variety of music. On the other hand, those who go to "zapa" usually choose to visit the Cool or the Kubik, located in the center of the city. The Cool is located next to Florida Park, and usually there are lot of people there. The music is totally pop, and from time to time they play some Basque songs. On the other hand, the Kubik is located on the general Alava street, and its music is more house style.

University Thursdays in Vitoria are very well known in the Basque country. Many young university students are encouraged every Thursday, after the "pintxopote", to go for a walk around the town. Students from different universities in the Basque Country are also encouraged to stop by.

Apart from the nights in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the "pintxopotes" of Vitoria are also very well known. Several bars from different neighbourhood of Vitoria agree and each bar produces one or more pintxos to choose from, accompanied by a "pote" (drink, usually beer, wine or grape juice) and for one euro (depending on the neighbourhood) in each bar you will be able to try them one by one.

In the newer neighbourhoods the pintxopote is usually worth 1. 5 €, but the pintxos are usually more elaborate.

Some neighbourhoods have pintxopote on Thursdays while others do it on Fridays, before going to any neighbourhood you should make sure you know the day of your pintxopote.

As well to this, on the previously mentioned street "kutxi", we can find the katuz-katu on Thursdays. Here, some bars agree and work together so that when you have a drink in one of these bars, they will give you a piece of paper with the name of another bar where you can have a free drink when you show them that piece of paper. When you ask for something again, they will give you another one for another bar and so on.
