Vilnius from the bird’s eye view
Once upon a time, I met an international student from Ukraine, who has only 24 h in Vilnius because of her flight and had no clue where to go in this new city. After I asked her what she would like to see, she told me ‘’Beautiful views and panorama of the Old Town’’. At that moment I already knew, what place to advice to make the most of her short visit to Lithuania.
You can find beautiful views and panorama of the Vilnius Old Town at these 6 places:
-
Three Crosses
-
Gediminas Tower
-
Gediminas Tower of the Upper Castle
-
Cathedral Bell Tower
-
Bell Tower of St. John’s Church
-

Advantages:
-
Most of them are for free
-
Located close to each other, so you can walk
-
Gives the ‘’capture’’ of Vilnius in a short time
In this article I will tell you about the Three Crosses – one of top 6 Must Visit in Vilnius
Three Crosses
If you find yourself in the Old Town, you could walk towards the Kalnu Parkas (Park). Right there you will see a clear pathway and lots of tourists following directions to the top on the summer day. We decided to get to the top and have a look at the magnificent historical symphony of Baroque, Gothic, Rococo architectural stylesas well as the narrow streets along which we used to walk before. On top of this hill, you may challenge yourself and try to recognise places from your guide or try to locate your previous walking trips. Also, this place is perfect for a photo with the background of the spectacular Vilnius.
For those who like to find more about the place, I would suggest reading the historical facts written on the board. The legend says, that in back in 14th century seven Franciscan friars were beheaded on this hill, thereafter wooden crosses served as the symbol to remember their death. Back in 1916 Polish architecture Antoni Wiwulski replaced these crosses for the new, however during Soviet times they were damaged and today – modern white Three Crosses designed by H. Silgalis, capture the attention of every tourist, student and a citizen. Thus, this monument brings significant value to this place and the history of the country.
How to get there?
It is located in Kalnų parkas, in the Old Town. You can walk from the Cathedral in 10 min
