Experience in Veracruz, Mexico by Fabricio

What is it like to live in Veracruz? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Veracruz is a very nice place to live. I grew up there and it has everything a student would love, sun, beach and a lot of places to visit. Though I must say it's very hot. People are usually very nice and there are many things you can do. There's an aquarium, there are small rides on boats on the sea, you also have new nice shopping centers and a lot of variety of food. Specially seafood. As for the universities, they depend. Some are good, some aren't. Is for you to make your research before you go.

What is the student lifestyle like in Veracruz?

For a student is very calm, there's not much traffic and almost everything is near so you wouldn't have a problem because of distances. There are many cafe's and bars and clubs, and in the nights it comes alive. Other students are very friendly so you will make friends very quick.

How much does it cost to live in Veracruz?

Well, it depends. But it's not that expensive. You can get rooms for perhaps 150 euros or so.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Veracruz? Is there any advice you can give?

I really don't know much about it, but there are many people who rent rooms for students and there are a lot of houses and apartments for rent.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

It is very good, you have a lot of variety. From "commercial" food like sushi bars, chain restaurants and stuff, to special seafood restaurants and food typical from Veracruz. I would say "shrimps covered with coconut".

Very good, but it is from thursdays to saturdays. On the other days there's not much bar or club life. ALthough it has very nice caffe's.
