What is it like to live in Valenciennes? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Valenciennes is a small city, but really nice when you speak French. In bank or different public institutions they do not speak English, so it is always problem with this. There is a lot of paper work.

What is the student lifestyle like in Valenciennes?

Student life is really good. There is no much clubs in the city, but in residence where every Erasmus people life, you can feel student life all the time. Every Thursday there is a big party in the city, so there is tranportation to residence at night. But other days when You want to party in city center You have to walk 1 hour to home.

How much does it cost to live in Valenciennes?

It depends where You are living. When you live in residence it is not so expensive.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Valenciennes? Is there any advice you can give?

It is not so difficult. Teachers and coordinators are really helpful. The best way is to find room in residence. They have a lot of different room so every one will find something interesting.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

I can't tell a lot of because we used to cook for ourselves. Sometimes we had international diners so every country was cooking some specialities from their region. But for sure I can recommend Chinese restaurant, where food is really delicious.

Is it good to eat out in Valenciennes? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

If you want to eat fast food, yes. There is a lot of good places where you can eat. But you have to always remember that almost everything is closed during the afternoon.

Is the nightlife good in Valenciennes? Where is good to go?

Nightlife in Valenciennes is always in residence. In city center there is not a lot of places where you can go.

What advice would you give future students heading to Valenciennes?

For sure, start to learn French, if not You will have problems during your stay.
