Las Fallas

Las Fallas son unas fiestas de primavera que tienen lugar en Valencia y alrededor de Valencia (por la Comunidad Valenciana) cada año desde el 15 de marzo hasta el 19 de marzo. En las fallas se ponen muchas figuras a lo largo de toda la ciudad que tematizan o critican algo sobre la sociedad; esas figuras también se llaman fallas, y por eso este evento se llama "Las Fallas". Esas figuras al final de las fiestas son quemadas y hay un espectáculo de fuego por toda la ciudad.

Aparte de esto, hay mucha fiesta durante todos estos días. Las Fallas son muy bonitas para verlas y la ciudad siempre está llena de gente. Como viene tanta gente todos los años, os recomiendo traer vuestras propias bebidas y comidas porque los supermercados, bares, restaurantes siempre están llenísimos y hay que esperar en largas filas para poder comprar algo ya sea de comida o de bebida. Así que lo más cómodo, quizás, es hacer algo en plan de picnic. Un buen lugar para hacer eso es el Parque del Hospital que es muy amplio y también hay mucho espacio para unos grupos de personas. Además hay algunos restaurantes, para quienes prefieren o quieren tomar algo por ahí.

Además hay que tener cuidado con vuestros bolsos y monederos porque la gente está tan pegada entre sí que es mejor que tengáis cuidado.

Algo típico de las Fallas es la "mascletá" que se organiza cada año y es una tradición. Para los que sean sensibles al ruido, es mejor traer algo para taparse las orejas porque hace mucho ruido. Un buen sitio para ver la mascletá es la Plaza de Ayuntamiento (si se puede ver algo porque siempre hay un montón de gente y casi no hay espacio para moverse). Por las noches se pueden ver los fuegos artificiales que, personalmente, los considero muy bonitos y lo bueno sobre las Fallas es que, durante esta semana, hacer botellones está permitido.

The "Fallas" are a traditional event which take place every year in spring in Valencia and in other places of the "Comunidad Valenciana". During that event, there are put many figures everywhere in the city which broach the issues of various topics. They are also used to criticise aspects of the society. This figures are called "fallas" and that's why this event is called "Las Fallas" as well. The "Fallas" take place every year from the 15th of march until the 19th of march and at the end all the fallas/figures are burnt and there is a great fire in the city.

Furthermore, you can party a lot during the Fallas (the truth is that you can always party in Valencia - the night-life is awesome). If you have the oportunity to visit the Fallas then do it! I can only recommend it, you won't regret it. During the Fallas the city is full of people and there nearly isn't any space to move. I recommend you to bring your own food and drinks with you because all the supermarkets, the bars, the restaurants, etc. are full of people those days and you have to stay in a huge queue to order or buy something. That really sucks! So probably it would be better and less stressful if you do some kind of picnic. A good place to do a picnic is the "Parque del Hospital", which is huge with a lot of space for bigger groups and there are also small cafés if you want to sit somewhere and have a drink over there. You have to be careful with your bags, because there are so many people in the city during the Fallas standing so close to each other that it would be better if you were careful with your valuables. A good place to hear and see the "mascletá" is the "Plaza de Ayuntamiento".

The "mascletá" is typical of the Fallas. There is a lot of noise but many people just come to see -or better- to hear that. If you are curious what it is like, you can watch videos of the "mascletá valenciana en las fallas" on youtube.com. If you are sensitive with noise, bring some earplugs or something to abate the noise.

At night you can see a lot of fireworks which are beautiful and you can go to party. You also can do some "botellones" (meet with friends and have drinks on the street or in parks) on the street if you like to because it is permitted to do them during las fallas on the street.
