august 30, 2012: Valencia's Bikes
I recently discovered Valencia's government-funded bike system, called 'Valenbisi'. Basically, you can go to one of the 300 stations around the city and take a bike. Each station can have anywhere from 0 to 30 bikes, depending on availability. Then, you ride the bike to a station near your destination and drop it off there. This commuting service is available for around 24 € for the entire year of unlimited usage.
Compare this, to using the metro to get from my apartment to campus and back (about 2.50€ round trip). If I have class 4 days a week, that's 10 € a week for 15 weeks, or 150€. That's 80 % savings by simply using 'Valenbisi'.
Lucky for me, there's a bike station one block from my apartment, so this will be my main method of transportation to campus!
