Experience in University of Amsterdam, Netherlands by Nils
Generally, what is the University of Amsterdam like?
De-centralized, chaotic, enlightened, experimental, interesting.
What are the facilities like?
Dispersed around town in the oldest buildings of town, moderately modern to very much up to date (they do all they can about new computers, etc - which are, unfortunately, hardly used within the framework of the class - you're going to make use of modern equipment yourself).
What are the tutors like?
Motivated, genius, eerie, charming - it is an absolute pleasure. However, not very organized or tech-savvy (which does pose kind of a problem - teaching is done by paper and textbooks, not much use of multimedia or "new forms of cooperation").
Are the lessons easy in University of Amsterdam?
They motivate you to think for yourself - good/"easy" for the free-spirited, if you're more into "multiple choice and bolemia studying", then it's hard (that's more VU - Vrije Universiteit).
Does the University organise activities? If so, what are they like?
Few - most is done by students themselves (SIB, CREA etc). More is centrally organized in Master's programme.
Do you think there is a good quality of teaching?
Definetely, it IS cutting-edge (in terms of content), but the didactic methods are old-fashioned.
