Montreal first impression
I came here the 25th of August, omg, I've been in Montreal already one month. I was already very excited about coming to Canada. My home university, which is in Madrid, Spain, had this exchange student program calles Munde, which allowed me to come here one semester.
I had my orientation day witht the whole exhange students the 31st, which allowed to meet a lot of people in your same situation. We are around 300 exhange students.
The mayority are french (as Quebec province is french speaking place), and the rest from all places in Europe, America and Asian, I'm pretty sure there is a exchange student from Madagascar!
As my french isn't very good, the university gives some courses that you can take in english, more less all about business related and marketing. But of course, you have all the possibilities in the french courses.
UQAM is well-known as a french university. So I would recommend to know a bit of french if you decide to come here, it will really help! In my case, I decided to just get to learn another language, good for my career and life.
People is very friendly. If you are a shy one, don't be. You find related with a lot of people here. This is your opportunity to start over and be whoever you wanna be, be yourself but be your best!
One of the things I love about Montreal is that since the beginning it has been a non-stop. The city is full of cool events and so far the weather hasn't been a problem...Let's wait until then. But apparently, the life keeps moving in Montreal even in winter.
Any advice, get involved! Seriously, everyday there is something new to do. Go party, enjoy a club or organization, sports, music festivals, market shopping...And by the way here are fans of Facebook invitation.
Are you also an exchange student in Montreal? Canada? Or are you planning to do so? Any questions, no doubt to ask me, I might help !
