Erasmus Experience in Umea, Sweden by Inês
Why did you choose to go to Umea, Sweden?
I was looking for a different experience and Sweden is definitely different from Portugal.
Umea is a very young city and the people are nice! Is a wonderfull city.
What is the student lifestyle like in Umea?
It's awesome, there's a buddy programme were swedish students help foreign students to ajust to the new city, the new college. People are very friendly and will help you in everything you need.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Umea to other students?
Yes.
What is the food like?
The food is different, but good.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Umea?
No, they have and accommodation system, we can go to a place where students live, like a dorm.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
They all speak English so yes is easy if you don't know anything about swedish, like me.
The hardest part is when you go to the supermarket and don´t understand what the enployees are saying to you, but they quickly understand that you are a foreign student.
I think so, swedish and english at least.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Umea from your city?
By plane.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Umea?
Play laser tag, to to Lokal, Corona, Rex... There are many different places and the buddy programme is always making activities.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
All the city center is cultural to visit! :D
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Umea in the future?
Enjoy it.
