Why did you choose to go to Umea, Sweden?

I chose to go to Umea because I've heard a lot of good things about the Swedish culture and also because I love snow.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I'm going to have a scholarship until the end of my journey here, so in total 10 months.

What is the student lifestyle like in Umea?

I'm going to university for my courses, I'm part of the Buddy Program, which organizes activities for international students, I'm partying and going to museums and stuff like that.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Umea to other students?

Yes, I would. You are well welcome as an international student in Umea and the city, although quite small, it very nice and everything can be done, every place can be reached by walking.

What is the food like?

As a vegan, it's very easy to find vegan options everywhere, rather in shops or in restaurants.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Umea?

No. I found my accommodation via a Facebook group.

How much does it cost to live in Umea?

Life here is quite expensive but with the scholarship it is doable.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Swedish is not an easy language, especially if your native language is not from Germanic roots. But there is a Swedish course for beginners at university.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Umea from your city?

The easiest and fastest way to reach Umea is the plane but if you have time and want to see beautiful landscapes you can also take the train.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Umea?

Probably Lottas, a pub in the city Center. It's a really nice bar with craft beers.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Umea?

If you want to experiment with Swedish fast-food, go to Max. Otherwise, there are good places for "Fika" such as Bibliotekscafeet.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

The BildMuseet is really nice.
