Sami people has its own particular language. Sami language is official recognited in the Nordic countries through Sami language laws. While most of the languages in Europe come from the Latin (such as the Spanish) or are Germanic languages (like the Swedish) the Sami language is originated from the Finno-Ugric language family, as well as Finnish, Estonian, Livonian and Hungarian. The present situation of the Sami language is affected by the dominance of the bigger languages such as the Swedish. Obviously, the Sami people are bilingual. It has allowed the continuous interchange of words between languages. There are 9 different dialects of the Sami languages with not very defined barriers among them. The most spoken is the Northern Sami. This existence of differences between areas gives difficulties to Samis to understand each other.
