Sami History VI – the beginning of the 20th century
After centuries and centuries when the Sami people interests were run over for the Swedish nation’s best, in the 20th century Sami people started to organize to claim for their rights. The first meeting was in 1917 in Trondeheim (Norway). The day of this first meeting was the 6th of February, the current date of the Sami National Day. It was initiated by the legendary Elsa Paula. He claimed for the ownership of the Sami’s land for them, since they have been paying taxis for them. She also asked for the improvement of the Sami people situation by themselves. In the 1920’s there were also a first convention for the reindeer hindering between Sweden and Norway.
