The Sami history is a long journey that started at the end of the last ice age and it is still going nowadays. There are many important events along this time that have marked the life and culture of this indigenous people. The beginning of this people started more than 9000 years ago, when Scandinavia was already free of ice. The people who live this land where hunters, fishers and gatherers and move around this area in search of resources. There are few traces of this prehistorical origins, such as arrowheads, small ceramiscs and fire places. During thousands and thousands of years, these peoples remained in Scandinavia with few contact with the rest of the world. The first signal of them in other civiliations was in 98 a. d. when the roman Tacitus write about a hunting people in the north that he named as the Fenni. In 555 a. d. the byzantine Propopius also wrote about this people in Scandinavia. But it is at the end of the 9th century when the first contacts with the Sami people started. It was when the Norwegian Ottar told about the reindeer herding by Samis.
