When we were in the Sami camp in Kiruna, one of the activities we more did was fishing.

Fishing have always been very important for Sami people as a source of income and trade. It is very important in summer months, when the reindeers live alone in isolated mountains, while in the fall fishing is frozen to survive the winter. In very poor grazing years, when many reindeer die because of the poor pasture, fishing can become the most important source for them.

The fishing rights of Sami are different nowadays than from the rest of Swedish. The mountain rivers and lakes are not available to be fished by the rest of Swedish, what have supposed many conflicts.
