The open air museum of Gammlia includes many different buildings that represent a traditional Swedish farm. The idea of recreate this important part of the Swedish tradition comes from a local history association from the Vasterbotten region. They wanted to move a farmhouse here to show the traditional way of life to the Umea citizens. Due to gifts, building transportation and construction, the group of houses of Gammlia from the mid-1880 have a perfect state. The open air museum takes the form of an enclosed courtyard with all the elements of a farm, including several barns, pole boden, saunas, water mill and windmill.
